Michael „Panther's Desire" Pachter, der vor allem in den USA sehr präsente und wichtige Analyst der Videospielindustrie, hatte in der vergangenen Woche Kritisches über Nintendo zu sagen, weil das nun einmal sein Job ist und keine Woche vergehen darf, ohne das er in den Medien präsent ist. Diesmal sprach der Sinnesmagnet mit ABC News und behauptete, die Wii U habe sehr wenig zu bieten und Nintendo stecke deshalb in großen Schwierigkeiten.
"I think Nintendo is at the bottom of a huge mountain, with a huge uphill climb“, sagte er in dem Interview.
"With PS4 just $50 more than a Wii U, I mean, why would anyone buy a Wii U unless they have to play Nintendo games?"
"Publishers are really excited about supporting Xbox One and PS4, but they didn't really say anything about the Wii U. We know EA has no games in development for Wii U. If others follow suit -- if you see Activision pull support, if you see Ubisoft, you see Take-Two pull support -- the Wii U becomes a Nintendo-only gaming device, which is the way they were with the Nintendo Entertainment System in 1985."
Pachter meinte, Nintendo brauche die großen Third-Party-Titel, um auf dem Heimkonsolenmarkt relevant zu bleiben. Außerdem wies er erneut darauf hin, dass sich Nintendo mit der Veröffentlichung der Wii U viel zu lange Zeit ließ.
"They are not going to sell a lot of consoles if they don't have games like FIFA and Battlefield and Call of Duty and Grand Theft Auto.
"Nintendo waited two years too long to launch a competitive console, a high definition console, with the PS3 and Xbox 360. I think by the time they launched the console, which stacks up really well, the other two guys passed them by, they're in a world of trouble right now."
