BioWares MMORPG wird im Herbst auf ein Free-to-play-Modell umgestellt, gab Publisher Electronic Arts gestern bekannt.
EA präzisierte diese Aussage später in einer Pressemitteilung und sagte, dass The Old Republic ab November free-to-play sein wird. Ab dem 7. August wird das Spiel für $15 zu haben sein, wobei alle Käufer einen Monat gratis spielen können.
Vor einigen Monaten ging man dazu über, die Spieler bis Level 15 gratis spielen zu lassen. Ab Herbst können die Spieler alle Handlungsstränge bis Level 50 gratis spielen. Um Spielinhalte für höhere Levels und weitere Features, die das Unternehmen einbauen möchte, nützen zu können, müssen Sie entweder Abonnent werden oder für die Inhalte einzeln erwerben.
„Players want flexibility and choice. The subscription-only model presented a major barrier for a lot of people who wanted to become part of The Old Republic universe“, erklärte GM Matthew Bromberg, General Manager von BioWare Austin, in der Pressemitteilung.
Dies sind die beiden Optionen, die BioWare anbietet:
Subscription – A service designed for players who want unrestricted access to all the game features via ongoing subscription or by redeeming a Game Time Card. In addition to gaining access to all game content as our current subscribers do now, subscribers will receive ongoing monthly grants of Cartel Coins, the new virtual currency that will be introduced later this fall. Cartel Coins can be used to purchase valuable in-game items including customizable gear and convenience features that will enhance the game play experience.
Free-To-Play – The first 50 levels will be Free-to-Play, with restrictions on access to new content and advanced player features. Some restrictions can be "unlocked" with Cartel Coins.
Falls Sie Abonnent sind oder in der Vergangenheit ein Abonnement hatten, erhalten Sie für Ihr Geld einige Belohnungen: 150 Cartel Coins pro bezahltem Monat; 1,000 Cartel Coins und ein „Heroes' Banner" für alle Käufer der Collector's Edition; und extra Boni für alle, die zwischen dem 1. August und dem Start von free-to-play im Herbst Abonnenten werden.
BioWare verspricht außerdem regelmäßigere Inhaltsupdates ab August.
„Since launch, we've been listening to feedback from our fans and adding new content and refining The Old Republic at a breakneck pace“, sagte Executive Producer Jeff Hickman in der gestrigen Pressemitteilung. „We believe we are in a position to help improve the service even more, not only by continuing to add new content, but also by expanding the game to many more Star Wars fans, increasing the populations on worlds and the vibrancy of the community."
