Rage 2 wurde gestrichen und Bethesda widmet sich nun mit voller Kraft der Entwicklung von Doom 4, das exklusiv für die Plattformen der nächsten Generation erscheinen soll, weiß Eurogamer zu berichten.
Bethesda bestätigte mittlerweile, dass die gesamte Belegschaft von id Software mit der Entwicklung von Doom 4 beschäftigt ist, was durch die Streichung der Fortsetzung von Rage möglich wurde. Doom 4 musste 2011 mehr oder weniger rebootet werden, weil es massive Probleme mit einer früheren Version des Spiels gab.
Bethesdas Marketingchef Pete Hines bestätigte dahingehende Berichte mit dem folgenden Statement:
“An earlier version of Doom 4 did not exhibit the quality and excitement that id and Bethesda intend to deliver and that Doom fans worldwide expect.
“As a result, id refocused its efforts on a new version of Doom 4 that promises to meet the very high expectations everyone has for this game and this franchise. When we’re ready to talk about the Doom 4 id is making, we will let folks know.”
Unter der Hand war zu hören, dass Doom 4 intern heftig verrissen wurde. “People referenced Call of Duty. There were jokes like, ‘Oh. it’s Call of Doom.’ They referenced it because of the amount it was scripted — there were a lot of scripted set pieces. There was kind of recognition that in order to be a big shooter these days, you have to have some amount of the big, bombastic movie experience that people get pulled through.”
Ob Rage 2 im Anschluss an Doom 4 doch noch entwickelt werden wird, steht noch nicht fest.
