Michael Ironside wird im kommenden Splinter Cell: Blacklist nicht wieder in die Rolle von Sam Fisher schlüpfen. Ubisoft erklärt seine Ersetzung durch einen anderen Schauspieler unter anderem damit, dass man bei der Videospielentwicklung zunehmend auf „motion-captured performances“ angewiesen ist.
In einem Interview mit IGN erläuterte Max Beland, der Creative Director des Spiels, dass das Studio in der Vergangenheit drei verschiedene Schauspieler einsetzte, um Sam Fisher in seiner Gesamtheit einzufangen – einen Sprecher, einen Gesichtsanimator und einem Motion-Capture-Künstler.
“On Blacklist we knew that we wanted to raise the bar of our scripted events, of our cinematics, and to do that we knew we had to go to performance capture“, sagte er.
“The difference between motion capture and performance capture is that with performance capture, you’re capturing everything at the same time.
“So we had one actor doing the body, the voice and the face. We have a camera that’s recording all the facial animations so right there, because you’re capturing a true actor’s performance, and the level of quality is raised instantly.”
Beland erklärte, dass Ubisoft einen Schauspieler auswählte, der nicht nur Sam Fishers Stimme produzieren kann, sondern auch in der Lage ist, ihn im wahrsten Sinne des Wortes zu verkörpern.
“That’s why we had to go with an actor that was able to do that, so we found Eric Johnson“, sagte Beland. Mr. Johnson tritt in diesem Spiel die Nachfolge von Michael Ironside an.
