343 Industries ist nun für die Halo Serie verantwortlich, weshalb das Studio erklären muss, welche Absichten man mit dem Design Halos Cortana verfolgt und welche Ambitionen man im Zusammenhang mit diesem Charakter hat. Folglich bot Frank O’Connor, Director der Halo Serie, GamesRadar eine neue Erklärung dafür, warum Cortana nackt ist (aber er erklärte leider nicht, warum ihre Oberweite und ihre Hüften mit jedem Spiel üppiger werden).
Es stellt sich heraus, dass die virtuelle Dame gar nicht nackt ist, Ihr Perversen! Sie glauben vielleicht, sie wäre nackt, weil sie keine Kleidung trägt, Sie kranker Mensch.
"She's not really nude … but that's what it makes you think of", sagte O'Connor. "So one of the reasons she [chooses to appear without clothes] is to attract and demand attention. And she does it to put people off so that they're on their guard when talking to her and she has the upper hand in those conversations.
It's kind of almost like the opposite of that nightmare you have where you go to school in the nude. You're terrified and embarrassed and she's kind of projecting that back out to her audience and winning intellectual points as a result."
Natürlich gilt dies nicht für Bungies ursprüngliche Cortana. 2003 erklärte Bungie Künstlerin Lorraine McLees:
"It seems that videogames studios are mainly made up of a bunch of guys, and the women in their games are perhaps portrayed in the way they themselves see women. Here, the same 3-D artist who wanted to not portray women as sex objects to be ogled and drooled over, coincidentally, modeled Konoko and Cortana. Never mind that Cortana was basically a naked hologram! For her action figure, it was important that she didn’t look too young, as she did in the game, so she became a little buxom. I’d requested her to not be as buxom, but somehow, the sculptor just didn’t want to make that change. We ran out of time, and there we go. [shrugs]"
Und O'Connor ist sich bewusst, dass 343 sich nur etwas aus den Fingern saugt, das gerade nicht Hautatmung ist. "That’s not why she was designed like that", merkt er an. "That’s how we’ve backed into our fiction. But that’s the conceit and that’s why she does it."
Da Cortana in der Lage ist, sich auf jede nur erdenkliche Weise zu präsentieren (etwa bekleidet oder auch als Mann, wie die meiste AI), und diese seltsame Mutter/Sexsymbol-Beziehung zwischen „ihr“ und dem Chief besteht, dürfte es 343 schwergefallen sein, die nackte, erotische Weltraumlady in sein düsteres, ernsthaftes, anspruchsvolles Sci-Fi-spiel zu integrieren, weshalb dies mehr ein Vorwand als eine wirkliche Erklärung ist, aber so ist es nun einmal. Die sexy, nackte, gehorsame Sci-Fi-Fraum it großer Oberweite ist so, wie sie ist, weil sie Sie in Wahrheit täuscht, Sie unkontrollierbare geile Kröte.
