Der Sohn ist in diesem Fall völlig unschuldig
Millionen Menschen sitzen gebannt vor den TV-Schirmen, wann immer ein Mehrfach-Jackpot in einer der vielen Lotterien weltweit ausgespielt wird. Gerald Present, ein Vater in Kalifornien, hofft, dass die $150, die er in Tickets für die große Powerball-Ziehung investiert hat, ausreichen, um den Jackpot zu knacken. Sollte er gewinnen (oder jetzt schon gewonnen haben), möchte er mit dem Geld seine Hypothek abbezahlen, ein neues Auto für die Familie kaufen und die enormen, in die Millionen Dollar gehenden Schulden tilgen, die sein Sohn auf der Xbox One angehäuft hat.
"We got Johnny the Madden game a couple of months ago and he absolutely loved it," erklärte Present. "We were happy for him until last week when we got his credit card bill and wouldn't you know it, the game somehow let him spend more than $400 million on something called Madden Ultimate Team. His mother and I were shocked, and frankly so was Johnny. He thought it was just a one time fee that he kept purchasing over and over and over again."
Present gesteht zwar ein, dass es vielleicht nicht die beste Idee war, seinem Sohn eine Chase Palladium Kreditkarte ohne Limit zu geben, aber er ist überzeugt, dass Johnny in diesem Fall das wahre Opfer ist.
"These companies need to take some responsibility for my son's actions. They shouldn't have allowed him to spend that much money on cards and they also shouldn't have allowed him to hide the credit card bill from me for three months so I wouldn't find out."
Present sagte, dass er überlegt, seinem Sohn Hausarrest aufzuerlegen und ihm seine Xbox One wegzunehmen, aber er glaubt, dass Johnny nicht zu hart dafür bestraft werden sollte, dass er einfach Pech gehabt hat.
"This always happens to Johnny. He is a magnet for bad luck. It's like when we bought him his first car. It was a Porsche 911 and wouldn't you know it, just days after he got the car someone stole it, street raced Johnny's friends, crashed into a pole and then put an unconscious Johnny in the front seat to take the blame. I tell you the world is just out to get my son."
Johnny selbst meint, dass es ihm leid tut, so viel Geld in das Spiel investiert zu haben, und ist überzeugt, dass das Spielerlebnis diese Ausgaben nicht wert war.
"I didn't even get a single goddamn Joe Montana Legends card“, klagte Johnny. "But I got about three million Tony Romo cards, like those are fucking good for anything."
