Auf Wired gibt es einen kurzen Beitrag über eine neue Star Wars Comicbuch-Serie, die etwas ganz Neues zu bieten hat: Leia ist Pilotin. Eine X-Wing Pilotin, genau gesagt, mit orangem Jumpsuit und allem.
Brian Wood (bekannt für DMZ und früher bei Rockstar Games beschäftigt), der Autor der Serie, erklärte in einem Interview mit Newsarama sehr gut, warum und wie es dazu kommt:
Leia spends a LOT of time in an X-Wing here, as a pilot equal in stature to Wedge and Luke, and close in skill. If there's anything "controversial" in what people already know about my story, its this idea that Leia is a fighter pilot. That she ISN'T one, actually, since we've never seen her doing it. I simply applied logic to the situation: if we, here, learn to drive at age 16, why wouldn't someone in Star Wars learn how to fly as a coming of age thing? Luke did, as a farm boy. Wedge did, working his parent's gas station. Why not Leia, a daughter of privilege? She can handle firearms, she basically takes over her own escape from the Death Star. She survives torture. She BEATS torture, actually. Later we see her on speeder bikes, fixing the Falcon, shooting more dudes, and so on. It's almost insulting to suggest she can't fly an X-Wing, the Rebellion's fighter of choice.
Leia wird ihre eigene Staffel formieren, ein Stealth Special Ops Team bei den X-Wings. Woods Erklärung macht durchaus Sinn. Zunächst vielleicht ein wenig überraschend und scheinbar unpassend, aber nur, weile es sich um eine neue Rolle für den Charakter handelt, aber Neuerungen sind genau das, was diese Reihe braucht. Außerdem ist es ein Comicbuch. Die in einem fiktiven Universum spielt, dessen Kanon so oft verändert und verbogen wurde, dass er nur noch eine kaum noch funktionierende Brezel ist. Also was soll’s.
Es wird ganz sicher ablehnende Reaktionen geben – und es gibt sie tatsächlich schon - already are —, aber dass der Comic Book Guy aus The Simpsons eine tragische Figur ist, hat einen guten Grund.
