Ein russischer Hacker, der entscheiden hat, dass die PC-Spieler das unveräußerliche Recht haben, das 2011 für die Xbox 360 erschienene Spiel The Dishwasher: Vampire Smile (siehe Bild oben) zu spielen, ging hin und portierte das Ding. Zu seiner Vertediigung meint er: „This is not piracy, this is restoration of justice."
Einer Übersetzung der Einträge im GameDev.ru Forum sagte der Hacker namens Barabus: „the authors are not very nice to publish the game exclusively for the Xbox 360, making it impossible for PC gamers to play in such a great game."
Und weiter: „Given that developers ignore the PC platform, about any loss of profit for them is not out of the question. After all, if they wanted to earn money, then the game would be issued on all available platforms."
James Silva, Gründer von Ska Studios, dem Entwickler des Spiels, nahm relativ gelassen zur Kenntnis, dass die Kreation seines Studios gehackt und gratis auf eine andere Plattform übertragen wurde. Nur dass man wegen der eigenen Geschäftspraktiken getadelt wird, findet er nicht richtig. „I'm not mad about the crack itself, in fact, I'm actually pretty impressed“, sagte er gegenüber IndieStatik. „But I'm bewildered by the cracker's attempt to justify the morality of it."
Silva meinte, er hätte dem Hacker gerne erklärt, warum keine PC-Version von The Dishwasher veröffentlicht wurde, hätte ihm dieser eine Email geschickt.
In einem Gespräch mit Eurogamer zeigte sich eine Mitarbeiterin von Ska Studios, die Künstlerin Michelle Juett, weniger tolerant. „I'm kind of livid myself“, sagte sie. „I just see him as the over-entitled gamer saying 'I deserve this because I want it!' ...
